My son has a 2005 Buick Century. It has a tiny chip on the key which is required to start the car.
I would like to buy him a remote starter for Christmas since the mornings are so cold.
Will I be able to do that even though there is a chip in the key?
Also, any advice as to which brands are good and which brands to stay away from…
Features to look for, etc.
I’m looking on Amazon and having trouble trying to figure out what is what. They keep saying remote security system and I’m looking for a starter not a security system.
Is Viper a good brand?
How much does installation usually run at a shop and how much do you think I should pay a guy we know that used to work for a dealership (if we go that route)Yes, but you must have another key with a chip in it. There may be other items you will need; especially if the car is equipped with anti-theft. We had one installed on our 05 Honda and the wife really loves it. Cost us about $300 to have it professionally installed.
