Is prize money usually awarded for winning competitions such as endurance, cross-country or trial riding?

I mean, I know you get Prize money for horse racing but money is never mentioned in the other competitions.

As a rule of thumb most horse events do not offer a prize pool of money.

Usually it is just a ribbon/sash/rosette or even trophy to acknowledge that you have won. Some events offer a "trophy" rug that is presented to the horse.

At agricultural shows here some classes will attract prize money. They can range from ridden classes judged on the rider or the horse, novelty events and also show jumping.

However the prize money is usually just enough to get your entry fee back in most cases. Except for showjumping, you can actually make a reasonable amount of money if you have a couple of good horses. Most ag shows will pay $250 for first prize in the higher grades of jumping.

Royal shows (our capital city shows) also attract prize money from sponsors for the main events and classes.

Most rodeo events here also carry prize money for the barrel racing, team roping etc.

Although it is not as common these days. Some prizes are also donated goods, such as bags of feed, tack and equipment. My mother used to have a palomino stallion that won every event he ever entered and was grand champion many times. At one point she even won a voucher to a saddlery with such a high dollar value, she was able to purchase a new kieffer saddle with the voucher!
<!--

I had to laugh when the husband said to me that he would buy his wife a ribbon. He thought showing was such a waste of time and money, and it would be cheaper if he just brought her some ribbons and not gone to all the effort to actually "show"…lol poor fellow

Any events associated with PC will not have prize money (dressage, combined training, 1 and 3 day events, showjumping, novelties etc.)

We played polocrosse for a number of years, after a hard weekend of tournament play, the only "prize" was a first or second ribbon at the end.

I truly believe that most people ride for the enjoyment and not to win prize money. A few lucky people have a horse good enough and are in the right sport to make some great pocket money

/**/document.write('

');/**/(function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(d.getElementById(id)){return;}js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}(document,"script","facebook-jssdk"));
