I have never sent in my photos to a photo competition where i have had to pay for my submission. I would expect any competition to make money from its advertisers and promotion of things from the competition or the sales of its competition material ie a magazine like in this case to pay for the competition itself. It sounds a bit sus to me if you end up paying a load of money for your photos just to be considered for a competition! and you may not get anything out of it in the end, you may not even be published in a magazine or any literature or even on the website of said competition. What has been your experience with competitions, how much have you had to pay, how much exposure have you gained. how much has it helped?
