"Allstate" Scam? Who do you report scams to? Police! the BBB! Allstate!?

Question by JenniT: "Allstate" Scam? Who do you report scams to? Police! the BBB! Allstate!?
o.k., my grandmother received a phone call today, asking why she had not deposited a $ 3,000 check she received in the mail (which did arrive today)...it was sent to her to cover insurance costs on a $ 400,000 "winning"(my grandmother was entered into the "sweepstakes" by someone else)...the woman told her to deposit the $ 3,000 check into her checking account and then write a $ 3,000 check to "Allstate"...who is to "insure" the money. This screams SCAM!!!! They even went as far to ask my grandmother if she wanted them to contact the local news (named her local channel, and paper). And the check is supposed to be deposited by 9:00 am tomorrow morning. I am extremely concerned first of all how someone could honestly try to decieve a person like that...and how they got my grandmother's address, and phone number (which has been the same for years, and years, but unlisted as well.)Has anyone ever heard of this?!?!?
