Do companies really do sweepstakes?

Question by Skylar J: Do companies really do sweepstakes?
OK, So you know how there are signs in the stores how if you fill this out, you could win this amount of money or what not. Well I'm starting to think it's not true.
See my dad works at Ashley Furniture and they were doing this deal where you can enter to win a sum of money to spend in the store. And i thought i would enter just to enter, but my dad said it's pointless, no one wins. I asked why and he said "We don't pick out the names, I've looked at the photos of the so called winners and they are just employees from around the U.S. holding a big check acting like the winners"

So it got me thinking on how every place i shop you see signs of "Enter to win" "Chance to win one of ten" And well maybe they don't do it either? Because i never really see anyone win these things.
So is it all true or is it just a scam to get you to come in the store?

Small businesses may scam you with fake sweepstakes (they want your contact information), but nationally advertised sweepstakes from major companies are real.

Your father may have been trying to discourage you from entering because almost every sweepstakes restricts family members of employees from winning. If they really are scamming that contest, they could be doing something that could result in big trouble for them.
