Sims3: How do I save my "saved game" if I need to reinstall windows and reinstall the game?

Do I need to copy and save the files on an external disk? which files?
do I upload to the community-site?

I have no idea! Please help

backup the games before the re-installation.just with a kind of game copy software, then don't worry.
